Who do we want to be?

Wales Identity Day
Iolo Williams

TV presenter and wildlife expert Iolo Williams argued that our natural heritage is the most powerful element in forming the identities of Welsh people. He suggested that, while Wales is a small country, the diversity of its wildlife, land and seascapes is enormous and has had a great impact on the country's industrial past.

Iolo added that Welsh heroes past and present are also crucial in providing inspiration and pride in Welsh, 'hwyl and hiraeth' people like Owain Glyndwr,William Morgan, Gareth Edwards and Tanni Grey-Thompson.
He left the audience with his personal vision of Wales: 'A living countryside with clouds of swallows, clean seas full of fish, thousands of acres of oak woodlands, and full of people. A country where the term grand slam is part of the Welsh language!'
