A winning
entry from the 'Vision of Wales'
exhibitionIn 2005 HLF created
Wales Identity Day, an annual
forum for debating ideas on everything
from the historic buildings, landscape
and wildlife, to the diverse cultures
and linguistic traditions of Wales.
To mark the inaugural event, HLF asked
students across the country to create
artwork expressing the role their
heritage has played in forming their
identities as young people living in
Wales. Over 50 pieces – from landscapes
and sculptures to short films and
graffiti art – made the shortlist and
formed the 'Vision of Wales' exhibition
at the National Museum in Cardiff. The
display was opened by Rhodri Morgan,
First Minister for Wales, on November
22. Nearly 200 guests
attended the exhibition and subsequent
discussions on heritage in Wales with
naturalist Iolo
Williams, Welsh artist Lowri Davies and
representatives from the Arts Council
and HLF.
